The Rotary Club Munich-International proudly marked its presence at the District 1842 Conference held in Passau from 30th June to 2nd July 2023. Our delegation of nine members was amongst the more than 200 participants who gathered for the conference and its accompanying program.

The event saw representatives from 59 Rotary Clubs, comprising nearly 3,300 members from Southeast Bavaria, discussing in depth one of Rotary International's six key focus areas: "Fostering Peace and International Friendship".
Esteemed speakers like Christoph Habermann, former State Secretary and Deputy Chief of the Federal Presidential Office, and Lieutenant General Dr. Norbert Weller, Deputy Inspector of the Medical Service of the Bundeswehr, shed light on various aspects of the topic.
The conference was warmly opened by Passau Mayor Jürgen Dupper, who amused the participants with a humorous and welcoming speech. His hospitality extended to hosting a farewell Weißwurst breakfast on Sunday for all guests.

As part of his farewell address as District Governor, Alexander Ehlers reflected on a special, challenging yet beautiful year. In an emotional and empathetic speech, he reiterated the significance and potential of Rotary while expressing his gratitude to club members for their remarkable efforts in preparing the conference, particularly recognizing the excellent work of President Sabine Bachl (RC Passau -Dreiflüssestadt), Peter Kratzer (RC Passau) and the entire club membership.

The event ended on a high note as Alexander Ehlers ceremoniously passed the baton of leadership to the new District Governor – his brother, Dr. Nikolai Ehlers. Delivering a vibrant, humorous, and forward-thinking address, the new District Governor outlined the tasks and goals for the upcoming Rotary year.

We are thankful for the experience and excited to imagine Rotary's future. The District 1842 Conference has been an affirmation of the incredible work Rotary does and the difference it makes to society. Here's to another year of service, donation, and help!
Our emphatic advice to all Rotary clubs: The 2024 District Conference in Munich is an event not to be missed!
